3/14/10 – [4pm] The first mushers are now arriving in Shaktoolik, on Norton Sound. This is the section of the race where the hurricane-velocity winds and ground blizzards can cut visibility to zero as the trail crosses Norton Sound to Koyuk. Once in Koyuk the racers travel over land for another 171 miles to Nome.
